Case of how we ought to understand security. What is the case for seeing a security approach. An argument that says distortion is non-within standing etc. this is the most productive way and here are the insights worth having. Issues had: pretentious and self indulgent, contradictive, not so problematic, the issue is the product of the author"s ambition, it was written just as the cold war was ending, subjective and reliant on individuals. Realist perspective finds it hard to swallow this: referent object (child abuse) Child is the referent object of the child. Walt says that security studies are the security of the state, not of the child. Subjects of security / actors who imperil security, who create a threat to the state and individuals. Or are we talking about being secure : e. g child abuse - freedom from the belt. Signifier: there"s a war going on, are we talking about physical or structural violence, security is invoked easily.
