The three factors being focused on: democracy, economics. Monadic hypothesis: focused on nature of government of one state: thought is that if you are more democratic, you are likely to initiate war. Dyadic hypothesis: focused on two states, the two states interactions with one another: democracies less likely to go to war, democratic theory is within this process. Democratic states will go to war for self defense reasons: democratic citizens more likely to vote against war. To not experience the hardships that come along with a war. Non democratic states are not bound by popular opinion: more likely to go to war for reasons the people would not agree with. Logical of political survival theory of selectorate. Regardless of feeling of democracy by the state, primary goal of leadership of state is to retain its power: this is the primary focus during decision making.
