Document Summary

Poli sci lecture - sep 21 2016. Whether we can blame human nature for wars, whether war tendencies are ingrained in us based on natural selection, whether it"s a part of our genes. Challenges: challenged in being able to explain peaceful nature. If war was in our genes, there would be more war than there actually is, war and violence would be our natural state: challenged in explaining how collectives work, there may be no solution to our war problems. If aggression has evolutionary basis, then efforts to eliminate war, might be doomed to fail. Gives pessimistic outlook on what options are available moving forward. War is not constant over time, geography, a lot of variations, and evolutionary, nature basis has a hard time answering these questions. Some groups seem more peaceful than others, such as inuit this theory will have hard time explaining altruism, and self-sacrifice.
