Polsci 2c03 - force, fear, crime and punishment. These are mainly three theories that act as goals the criminal justice system wants to/ should achieve. The rst theory is utilitarian; this approach that says we are trying to obtain the most useful outcome a more productive society. Speci c and general deterrence, does not focus on what is right or wrong but does take the individual and society into consideration. An attempt to ensure that society functions in the most positive way moving forward. Does not care about what happened, is only future oriented. From this perspective; deterrence, rehabilitating and reforming criminals would t in this model; does not focus on the moral aspects of crime. Canada focuses on this model (as well as restorative/retributive but speci cally this one) Next we have the retributive; recedes crimes as a front to society, individuals who do not abide by the laws ought to be punished.
