Document Summary

Kant"s deontology nature and the necessity of moral law: What is good without qualification is a good will. All of our natural capacities (intelligence, physical abilities, skills, etc. ) and all of the external goods we can receive (power, wealth, health, fame, happiness in general, etc. ) can all be used for bad as well as good. A good will is not considered good because it can realize good ends it is only good through its willing; i. e. , it is good in itself (220) Intrinsic value: the value of a good will is found in itself alone i. e. it does not depend on anything else for its value, and is not valuable because it is instrumental to anything else. A good will is the highest good because it is the only thing that is valuable in itself and the only thing upon which the value of anything else depends.
