Peace can and must include not only the absence of war but also the establishment of positive, life-enhancing values, political institutions, and social structures. Founder of the discipline of peace and conflict studies, and peace research. Proposed a distinct between positive peace and negative peace. Peace to avoid the threat of force, violence. Peace as the presence of justice, harmony, etc. Peace because it is beneficial for both sides (eg. peace treaties) The belief that peaceful approach is best. Realist view: peace is an absence of war and violence among and within political units (countries) Liberal view: peace is related to the promotion and protection of human rights, justice and cooperation among people and nations. Better measures of well being, levels of inclusiveness. An imaginative way of describing something by referring to something else which is the sane i a particular way. Fight for peace bs promote, build or cultivate peace. Using qualitative and quantitative indicators can help define peace.
