A terrified patient after she is admitted to the icu. Was she going to spend weeks/months tied up to machines, tubes and a light glaring in h. Diagnosed with a severe case of guillain-barre syndrome, she was paralyzed except for h. Could not breathe - a respirator did that for her. She could see, hear and feel however - remembers everything. When she was released from icu - never wanted to see that unit again. Recovered, lives a fairly full and normal life - visits hospitals to learn about and give insigh patients. She had a great support system, recovered psychologically whole, while many do n. Her thoughts about the icu have to do with her illness and symptoms. Believes that the right environment in the icu can minimize fear, frustration and iso. The lights, sounds, colours the faces of family and friends, the patterns of car healthcare professionals all impact this.
