Why is mt effective in mental health: provides opp to express oneself without words, with intense emotions, opp to find ways to bring emotions to the forefront, music is acceptable to create something musical is normal, Those whose mental health is suffering ability to recognize one"s potential starts to decline. Mental health is determined by socio-economic and environmental factors low ses = higher unemployment = higher stress = more indivs with mental health issues. Mt appears to be effective in managing symptoms of depression yet studies are lacking in clarity. Studies aims to determine efficacy of mt added to standard care compared to standard care only. Study took place at the mt clinic for research and training (in finland) 5 or more symptoms: at least 1 of the symptoms must be either a depressed mood or a loss of interest of pleasure.
