Pop music has been around for ages and started to take shape in the 1800s. Victorian ballad: queen victoria was on the throne for most of the 1800s: commercial styles of music, not dealing with recorded music, only dealing with sheet music. Music was written by white people and published by white people; technically aimed at middle class white people. Characteristics: piano accompaniment, vocal control, theme: loyalty, honesty, control and restraint, songs were usually performed by middle aged white women who were looking to get married. Sung songs in order to make a good impression on men: carrying the notion of control when singing. It"s to grab attention: control echoed in the lyrics along with the performance, there is technical, superficial changes in the music industry today.
