It was a na ve belief that drugs could open a higher level of thinking: crime became an issue with drug trades, counter-culture was very inward; didn"t really make a change in the world, counter-culture becomes more political. Movement of middle class white people, no black people. Pressing issue: the us had become involved into another war, military advisors along with police officers, war in vietnam becomes an issue between the us and communists in china; proxy war. It becomes organized and has a political wing. Counter culture begins to oppose things and main rallying point was in vietnam. Counterculture goes from west coast to east coast. Need to be near washington in order to make change.
