How do lines function: separate spaces, join spaces or objects, aandc, all of the above. Changing line thickness (relative to length) has much more impact than changing size of a dot text styles. As line becomes thicker becomes perceived as a plane surface or mass. Plane and mass = a dot whose outer contour the sense of its shape becomes an important attribute . The dotlike quality becomes secondary the larger the object becomes. Forms are understood relative to the volume of space around them.
