It"s about preparing you, and your future sdm(s) If you change your decisions, need to change it in the documents (updating) Your future sdm would step in to give/refuse consent for treatment. Gives you the opportunity to make choices about your future personal care. Giving someone you trust the information & authority to act on those wishes for you. No one can do it for you or make you make those choices. There is no legal requirement to have one. A written statement detailing a person"s desires regarding their medical treatment in circumstances in which they are no longer able to express informed consent, especially an advance directive . Encourages thinking about & communicate values in terms of quality of life. All potential situation cannot be anticipated in advance. May change feelings about treatment over time yet document remains unchanged. What you ask for may not be medically possible or fall within a poor standard of healthcare.
