The process of identifying, quantifying, & managing the risks that an organization faces. Outcomes of business are not certain, there is always a risk ie) x-ray exam, massage therapy, sonographic exam. These risks include strategic failures, operational failures, financial failures, market disruptions, environmental disasters, & regulatory violations. Part of a continuous quality improvement (cqi) progress. Camrt conferences - go over different ideas about risk management - incidences vs near misses (things that did not happen but cold have happened) - think of a way to prevent them in the future. Liability - lawsuits against the organization/hospital or against the hcp. Reputation - don"t want to be thought of as a high risk. Physicality - equipment repair & replacement; must not allow equipment to be run down/old. Intimately linked with the following documents: the charter of rights & freedoms, the cmart code of ethics & policies & position statements, whmis, radiation protection organization (monitors radiation protection)
