Nine regions: right hypochondriac, epigastric, left hypochondriac, right lateral (lumbar, umbilical, left lateral (lumbar, right inguinal (iliac, pubic (hypogastric, left inguinal (iliac) Mid & upper abdomen landmarks: xiphoid process @ t9-t10, inferior costal margin @ l2-l3, iliac crest @ l4-l5. Lower abdomen & pelvic landmarks: asis, greater trochanter, symphysis pubis, ischial tuberosity. Ensure midline of patient is aligned with long axis of ir (straight on the table) Cp is at midsagittal plane, at level of iliac crest. May require a separate bladder image to get kidney, ureters, bladder. See air fluid levels on the left = erect abdomen. 2nd image = supine abdomen; cannot see air fluid levels very well. Cr 2 inches (5 cm) above iliac crest & perpendicular. Top of the ir at the armpit. Ensure midline of patient is aligned with long axis of ir. Cp is 5 cm superior to iliac crest. Don"t need to include all the way up to the diaphragm.
