It is common to talk of the caribbean, which is a sea, when referring (referimos) to las. Antillas (the west indies), an archipelago made up of thousands of islands. Geography of the caribbean: these islands form 3 major groups: Las bahamas: the islands on which we will focus (enfocamos) on are three of the four that make up the grandes antillas, cuba, largest of the grandes antillas, closest to north america. Espanola: east of cuba, island shared (compartida) by two republics, hati, dominican republic. Puerto rico: east of espanola, smallest of the islands. Beginning in july and october, hurricanes, starting in the. Atlantic ocean, sometimes hit (castigan) the shores of these islands. In all the antilles, the vegetation is lush (exuberante). The climate is particularly appropriate for the cultivation of sugar cane, coffee and tobacco, important products in the three islands.
