Morphology - words are made of sounds & morphemes. Morphemes are the smallest unit of meaning (e. g less is a morpheme in the word friendless) Monomorphemic mean the word is made of one free morpheme. Polymorphemic means the word is made of more than 2 morphemes. Words (cid:449)ith these ofte(cid:374) do(cid:374)"t ha(cid:448)e a separate dictionary entry. Derivational morphology - is lexical, creates new, but often related lexemes. They are realized as different words in different grammatical environments. Affixation/suffixes ( are at the end of the word) Periphrasis - using words in a specific order (e. g had read) Internal - changes the word (e. g from sing to sang) Suppleton - completely changes the word ( be, am, was) Unproductive - for exceptions, are often irregular, with limited use. Number, how many (e. g bird and birds, man and men, child and children, zero suffixes for sheep)
