The study of morphology has led to the following observations about language: words have categories, words have internal structure, words are created and modified in systematic ways. How to change its form (appropriate to context) The lexicon: a speaker"s mental dictionary, which contains information about the syntactic properties, meaning, and phonological representation of a language"s words. The smallest free unit that links form and meaning. The smallest unit of language that carries information about meaning or function: morphemes might be free or bound, morpheme = form + meaning.
