LIFESCI 3K03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Pars Compacta, Primary Sensory Areas, Brainstem
Document Summary
Involved in sequencing motor synergies using sensory cues. This area is highly influenced by the cerebellum via the thalamus. Externally generated movements means that you are moving in response to an external sensory cue. The lateral premotor area is involved in externally cued movements they map the relationship between a given stimulus and a response. It has the same sequencing role, but based more on internal than on external sensory cues (e. g. learned sequences). This is associated with bimanual control, and it is influenced by the basal ganglia via the thalamus. Lateral premotor areas: externally generated movements, movement preparation (dorsal premotor, shaping the hand (ventral premotor) Pma lesions impair the movements elicited by sensory cues, whereas sma lesions disrupt self-initiated movements, and impaired bimanual coordination. Sma is bilaterally activated and is only activated when performing a sequence of movements. Summary: m1 is responsible for executing the movement (codes for kinematics and force)
