LABRST 3H03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Hate Group, Technical Analysis, Equal Pay For Equal Work
Document Summary
Lecture 10; relations between movements and changes in the workplace (liberation movement) These rights that were run: human rights legislation, employment equity, maternity leave, etc. They were fought for in different correlations of groups. Example; maternity leave fought by the postal workers + women"s movement. Thus coalition between unions and liberation groups was essential. Together they were able to build on substantial changes. They were both the backbone in creating change. Built communities for people to politically push for things. The postal workers (talked about last week) is a good example of this. Unions have the right to push for things (collectively bargain) which makes them beneficial to grassroots liberation groups. Gay liberation and women"s movement happened in the late 60"s and 90"s. The role of the unionized activist really bolstered the bargaining power for these unions. Made them more official and made it a public issue.
