Standards of living are increasing, however there are parts of the country with places of high poverty (especially in areas within quebec, newfoundland) The new system creates a class of poor people who are not being represented by unions. Large waves of social movements in canada and the us including the peace movement, Social movements are an issue for unions; they identify new groups as the underdogs of society.
