Making flexible" workers part 2: local strategies. The current context: neoliberalism and the age of austerity. This week material + imperialism + colonization. Today"s concepts: oppression, race and racism, white supremacy, patriarchy (and hetero-patriarchy, intersectionality, nations, nationalism, and borders. Colonization (new and old) entitles strategies into work forms of today. Discrimination = limited opportunities for improvement and work. Different hierarchy that effect you differently depending on location. Hierarchy in workplace and home place that predate the economic system. Women have less social economic and political power in society, work unpaid, work less. Mcnally structures racism of today from colonization, imperialism. Variety of social economic forces (including imf, free trade agreements, state practices) Not ideas it is in our everyday lives and has material consequences. Material consequences" = visual, has real material consequences (ideas like racism, sexism) Set of ideas and policies that are imbedded in our lives. We need to seek wage labour to survive.
