Public sector is the government sector (jobs controlled by the government) Throughout the course we"ve primarily looked at the private sector (aka the business sector) Private sector are private businesses that are for profit. Owned and run directly by the government. Also funded by the government and driven by policy. Employees don"t directly work for the government but they do work for the government in a broader picture. School-boards get their funding for the government, and the government sets the rules for what is supposed to be taught. Don"t pick the curriculum for universities, however the government does have control over the policies of the school (giving degrees) Medicine and hospitals (broad healthcare policy, funding, and insurance system is set by the government) Challenges for creating unions in this sector. Government as employer creates a different set of issues. Most workers, when their unhappy with their employer(s)
