Political showdown: saw this as a horrible thing and ordered the leaders of the strike to be arrested. Macdonald never liked george brown, so this was macdonald"s chance to push forward in politics. By making the trade union act in 1872, in particular it legalizes activities like fighting over minimum wage. Labour leaders often lived in fear so if this act were pushed forward macdonald would be liked by the labour movement. Criminal law amendment act: criminalizes threatening and disruptive strikes for unions to limit them. Political lobbying: getting together as a group to push governments to do things to help you out.
