Local hat makers, clothing makers, blacksmiths, (because so much of the tools were relied on small local shops) The quality of life depended on the amount of skill the local trades people had. Doctors were not all the great at curing people at this time. If you had collections of communities that had skilled workers in a specific trade, it what communities became known for. Emphasizing the value of their skill, know how, and prominent role they played in the community. Trying to make sure that all of the skills trade workers were belonging to the union. Fair price, so that the craftsmen could live well and take care of the family, but also a price that was fair and the union would set prices that would fulfill there role as a producer. Political background: confederation, federal = conservatives dominance, provincial. The industrial revolution showed the economy advancing, although they were not nescarailiy good times.
