Family roles in business (women did the business/books/sales, sons worked as apprentices) Clear hierarchy (present in all or most trades) Apprentices (young age, cleaning and learn the trade) Journeyman (skilled workers paid well, and work for craftsman) Paternalism and respectability (not the elites/not top of society) Public role (ex. church and community); helped everyone else to get by (good provider for self and others)
