Document Summary

Monthly cycle controlled by hormones of anterior pituitary, hypothalamus and ovaries reproductive cycle split into two areas. Ovarian cycle i. changes in ovary during and after maturation of oocye. If implantation does not occur, the stratum functionalis is shed during menstruation. Gnrh acts on anterior pituitary for it to release fsh and lh. Fsh intiates growth of follicles that secrete estrogen. Estrogen comes from the theca interna, maintains the reproductive organs. Lh stimulates ovulation (spiked in middle of reproductive cycle) Promotes formation of corpus luteum which secretes estrogens, progesterone, relaxin and inhibin (ripe) Progesterone and estrogens prepare the uterus for implantation and altering release of other hormones release of other hormones. Progesterone: in high concentrations inhibits release of fsh and lh. Estrogen: moderate levels does the same as progesterone. When estrogen is very high, it stimulates the release of fsh and lh.
