Document Summary

Human nervous system: the job of the nervous system is to detect stimuli (changes in the environment) and coordinate responses, electrical signals are much faster than those of hormones. Cns: central nervous system: the brain and spinal cord, coordinates the entire nervous system. Pns: peripheral nervous system: all other nerves in the body, relay information between the central nervous system and other parts of the body, divided into two parts . Somatic nervous system: motor neurons that are under conscious control, all of the sensory neurons in the body, relay information about the environment to the cns. Sympathetic nerve: a nerve that prepares the body for danger (e. g. dilates pupils, increases heart rate, slows digestion, etc. ) Parasympathetic nerve: returns the body to a normal, more relaxed state: central nervous system, peripheral nervous system. Autonomic nervous system: cerebrum, brainstem, cerebellum, spinal cord. Anatomy of a nerve cell: there are two types of nerve cells glial cells and neurons.
