Document Summary

There are 2 basic control systems that guide action: open-loop control, closed-loop control. The impulses that are sent to effectors. The body part that is being moved. A set of motor commands that are pre-planned: which muscles contract, the order of contraction, how long they contract for. A type of control that involves the use of centrally determined, pre-structured commands that are sent to the effectors and executed without feedback: does not require sensory feedback, the movement is planed beforehand. The movement plan is sent to the effectors. It already contains all the necessary information: cannot be stopped once sent. Most effective in closed environments: not sensitive to whether or not the desired goal is achieved, modifications cannot be made while the action is in progress. Showed that the entire movement is pre-planned in advanced and executed as a whole: extend elbow to move a level, the movement is prevented by a mechanical arm in some trials.
