Document Summary

Nervous system further divide into: somatic / autonomic. Synapse with skeletal muscle: junction of a nerve cell with another cell. i. e. neuromuscular junction is a synapse between a neuron and skeletal muscle cell. Autonomic nervous system (ans): from cns to smooth muscle, cardiac muscle, and certain glands: involuntary control, two neuron system: first from cns to ganglion; second from ganglion to effector. Prepares body for physical activity (flight-fight response) Regulates resting or vegetative functions such as digesting food. * cannot have sympathetic and parasympathetic at the same time. Ex: sympathetic increase hr, parasympathetic decrease hr. Plexuses within the wall of the digestive tract. Can control the digestive tract independently of the cns, but still considered part of ans because of the parasympathetic and sympathetic neurons that contribute to the plexus. Control movement of digestive system of food. Organization of the nervous system refer to ppt. Receive stimuli and transmit action potentials to other neurons or effector organs.
