Document Summary

Change in pressure from one end of tube to another end. Pressure: force per unit surface area, blood pushing against blood vessel walls. Fluctuates between systolic and diastolic: highest pressure at aorta, declines around way to heart, closer to diastolic, 1/3rd of distances we spend more time near there, 93 is average, 80 is diastolic, 120 is systolic. Flow- volume of blood moving through per minute: cardiac output. Resistance- opposing force to normal flow of blood. How heart regulate blood pressure: low blood pressure, increase resistance, changes and increases pressure, or you can increase flow to increase pressure. Vasodilation: decreased resistance: diameter of vessel can change quickly, a 2x increase in diameter means a 16x reduction in resistance. Laminar: nice smooth,, streamlined, outermost layer moves slowest (friction) and center moving fastest, center of blood cells move fastest, referred as laminar flow, doesn"t make any noise, doesn"t cause any damage.
