Questions to ponder: different responses are beneficial to different people and not all treatments will work for all people. Is addiction a symptom rather than a disease? (many people who have symptoms of addiction also meet criteria for other diseases: four pillars (prevention, harm reduction, treatment, Harm reduction: shares similarities with prevention, not possible to eliminate addiction, concentrate on impact, e. g. disease, crime, family breakdown, lost productivity, etc, dead people can"t recover from addiction , avoids moralizing, not focused on reduction in use. People use drugs because they benefit from them: moralizing the individual, you risk pushing them out, does not promote use, best way to help is to avoid morals. Incorporates all drugs (legal & illegal) into single category drug users rather than addicts and drug abusers: humanity: users are human beings with rights to self-determination and input on how to reduce harms to themselves.
