Halo efect: negaivity overshadows everything, may lead to pessimisic outlook on life - you are anicipaing a future full of threats. People may get anxious about their exams and it would moivate them to study. Too much anxiety without excepional reasons ceases to have posiive beneit. Emerged as disinct group of disorders in dsm-iii - the dsm-iii was very important as it changed the way the book was writen - focused less on psychoanalyical perspecive (causes) and focussed more on symptoms.
