HLTHAGE 2G03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Mental Disorder, Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor, Fluoxetine
Document Summary
Mood: something that is sustained, pervasive, effects many different aspects of our life, it is very potent. Affect: the outward expression of mood (facial expressions, tone of voice) Emotion: comes and goes, responds to specific events. When we are talking about mood disorder, we are talking about someone who is depressed because they feel a certain way for an extended period of time, not because you had a shitty day. Mood is significant because of a halo effect: it can shape your experience, changes how you think about the past, the present, mood is significant because it alters your sense of self and what might be possible. The first two are the primary categories. Episode is a term that describes a discrete period of time where a certain mood is pervasive (manic episode, depressive episode) It used to be 10% of your weight, and now it is 5%, it becomes easier to become diagnosed with depression.
