Based on the principles that our mental health is based on our ways of thinking. The original talking treatment; based on the ideas of freud. Encourages people to understand themselves more; looking at their past life/experiences and how they might be meaningful. Trying to build a strong connection between the therapist and client. The therapist should try to genuinely care for the client. Suggests that mental illness is not about one individual person but instead a series of relationships (e. g. familial) You need to treat the whole dynamic, and not just the one person. The belief that the individual can change their life. Based on the idea that a person"s mental health problem stems from a problem in their brain and that drugs can help reduce the affects.
