Mood: long term thing- how someone feels for days, months, doesn"t have a cause, shapes the way we see the world or how we understand our past or future. Emotion: sudden, response to something, stimulant, transient and responsive. Mood: has a halo effect cognitive bias- overall impression influences feelings and thoughts about the entity"s character and properties. Episodes: discrete period of time in which behaviour and feelings are dominated by mania or depression; a person is dominated by a mood. Affective disorder and mood disorder: used interchangeably. Hypomania- super-functional semi-mania (bipolar ii: patients don"t want to change things or get treatment. From 1996-2004, 56% spike in bd diagnosis. over last decades, increase from 1% of general population to 4% Fetish for mentally ill art : not everyone w/ bipolar disorder achieves great things . Compare treatment of people with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder or cancer: bipolar disorder 3rd category: think this person is going to achieve something.
