Body dysmorphic disorder a person fixates over an aspect of their body (legs, stomach etc) Ssd: at least one chronic somatic symptom that causes excessive preoccupation, although a person may frequently use healthcare services, not made to feel better. Person might see many doctors but not made to feel better. Assumptions that it was caused by prior tragedy or trauma. Does not have to be medically unexplained! Depends only on psychiatrist"s judgment that worry and thoughts are excessive . What does it mean for fibromyalgia, ibs, and other contested illnesses: many examples in history of medicine of previously unexplained maladies and discovery of root causes. Will it result in increases in mental illness: often times it takes us many years to find the source of something. Won"t this primarily affect women as catastrophizers? .
