Archaic period (c. 750-480): formation of city-states of central italy. In greece there is lot"s of cultural identity. Rival city- states but broader regional identities: etruscans, latin"s. By c. 600: temple of jupiter optimus maximus on capitoline c. 600: curia hostilia for king"s aristocratic council. Greeks assigned an animal to the consonant and vowels. Italy/ latin- used this and created the script we use today. Italy had similar cultural, religion, and way of life to the latin"s and. Latin"s and etruscans culture, religion and way of life are not similar. Greek culture had a strong influence on the new italian culture c. 8th: villages of roman hills coming together c. 500: monarchy replaced by aristocratic republic. Republican magistrates: 2 consuls, praetor, (from 242:2 praetors), 4 aediles, and quaestors. Ruled by a monarchy: rex (latin word for king) They (two of them) would rule for a year.
