Two thirds of the worlds inhabitants are clustered in four regions (east asia, south asia southeast asia, europe. Humans avoid clustering in harsh environments. (to dry, to wet, to cold, or too mountainous for activities such as agriculture. Arithmetic density measures the total number of people living in an area. Physiological density and agricultural density show spatial relationships between people and resources. It is the total number of people divided by total land area. Used to compare conditions in different countries. Higher in nether lands and egypt lower in canada compared to states. Enables geographers to compare number of people trying to live on a given piece of land. To explain why people are not uniformly distributed through out earths surface other measures are more usefull. Looks at number of people per area of arable land. Physiological density: is the number of people supported by a unit area of arable land.
