Blake- lumped in w romantic writers but is not connected to them. Romantic poets wrote self-referred text, talks about itself as an artefact- call your attention to the fact that they are an artificial construction made by the poem. These texts introduce new kind of poetry (previous texts could be related to and predicted) He has stayed up and his only companion is the infant son asleep behind him (everyone else went to bed), the frost is outside. Narrator feels alone, isolated, everything is too calm. First paragraph sets scene, alone, still, a little noise from the fire which brings him back to its past. Thinking about beautiful and significant things from his childhood. Goes from pleasant memory to negative memories of childhood. One way to read coleridge- in childhood you live in rapture/in nature environment, then you are divorced from that environment as you grown up (innocence to experience)
