Wildire dates to the ime when the trees irst evolved 350 million years ago. Many ires start naturally as a result of lightning or volcanic erupions. Ater a ire, vegetaion completes a cycle from early colonizing plants to mature ecosystem. The ecosystem that evolves adapts to the climate at that paricular locaion and ime. Many species have evolved to withstand ire or promote the life of the species ater a ire event. Oak and redwood trees have bark that resist ire damage. Some pine trees have seeds that only open ater a ire. The geologic record shows an increase in the amount of charcoal in sediment approximately 10 000 years ago. Suggest high amounts of wildire acivity at the ime. More ire acivity: warmer or drier climate, increase use to ire by humans for clearing land and for heat, cooking. Wildire requires three elements: fuel, oxygen and heat. If any are lost the ire will dissipate.
