CSCT 3D03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: The Leopard Man, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Class Discrimination
Document Summary
Is the narrator reliable? (cid:498) well that(cid:495)s just so subjective(cid:499) Records what the beast people, montgomery, the captain say and do. The problems with his pov: prendick(cid:495)s view is traumatized and physically damaged and weakened, fears he(cid:495)s going mad. From the victim of a shipwreck to a rescued man. From a rescued man to a horrified and endangered human. From a horrified human to a somewhat accepting human. The captain suspects prendick is a cannibal-> because people were dead on his lifeboat-> prendick enters the island with a subhuman status. Survival of the fittest-> the two other life boat people fought and they both died. He is possibly on the island of arica in chile. Prendick is deeply humane, vulnerable, didn(cid:495)t fight for his life, passive-> saved him. We don(cid:495)t know where he is and neither does he. Prendick still doesn(cid:495)t know where he is when he(cid:495)s on the island.
