Document Summary

There is a difference between a worker and employer. A worker is anyone who performs work or supplies services at a workplace or site. Most accidents occur because of unsafe acts and unsafe conditions. Unsafe acts: a worker"s violation of, or disregard for, a safety rule or procedure. Unsafe conditions: a physical hazard or inadequate safety programs, policy or training that poses a risk to the health and safety of workers. The internal responsibility system (irs): a system within an organization where every person has direct responsibility for health and safety as an essential part of his or her job. There are different types of workplace injuries; musculoskeletal injuries (msis) and repetitive strain injuries (rsis). Making modifications to workplace design would reduce or eliminate ergonomic hazards. Workplace violence: any act in which a worker is abused, threatened, intimidated or assaulted in the course of his or her employment.
