People develop romantic relationships with people who are similar to themselves in factors such as physical attractiveness, cultural background, personality traits, and interests. Do opposites attract or do birds of a feather flock together : opposites do not attract. Reciprocity: mutual exchange -> positive words, actions, when we feel admired and complimented we tend to return these feelings and behaviours. Walking style/gait: varied according to menstrual cycle (not using hormonal birth-control pills) Lizzi miller controversy?- was not well recived because she was a plus sized model. Females/males rate attractiveness of faces higher when smiling: women, men. Gender differences: women emphasize the following more than men, vocational status, earning potential, expressiveness, kindness, consideration, dependability, fondness for children, men. Youth, physical attractiveness, cooking ability, frugality: are attractiveness preferences inherited, women youth and health = reproductive capacity, men stability. Intimacy = feelings of closeness: passion = arousal and sexual attraction, commitment is twofold: See love as highly personal, intense, proximity promoting: collectivist cultures.
