Characteristics of assertive messaging: describe behaviour (denial from the people, your interpretation of the other persons behaviour, description of your feelings, describe the consequences, statement of your intentions. Gender and conflict style are more likely to be overtly aggressive, demanding, and competitive es are more co-operative and less directly aggressive. Lose: one party achieves its goal at the expense of the other.
