Story of one man and his homecoming. Notice: when we talk of heroes in greek literature, they are not of heroes as we think of today (they don"t always practice good deeds, good actions, etc. ) for. Greeks, heroes were men; mythological past is historical past because greeks believed in them. Heroes are often very complaex; they can do bad and destructive things to themselves and other people. Any story that tells a story about self discovery; anyththing that plays with timelines, etc. has its origins within the odyssey. Penelope"s trick (told suitors she couldn"t make a decision about marriage until she weaved her father in law"s thing, weaved by day, unravelled by night) Telemachus and his journey: pylos and sparta. Athena pushes him to travel abroad, find news of his father, get him away from danger of suitors, also give him practice with dealing with other kings (real life experience for him if he becomes king of ithica)
