BIOLOGY 2C03 Lecture 5: 5) Lecture - module 3
Document Summary
How does the chromosome affect expression of a gene. Transgenerational periods - environment your parents or grandparents are exposed to. Family may have the same sequence, but a different representation of the gene. Ties in our psychology and organisation of chromosomes in our genetics. In interphase we can see how the chromatin expand so that genes can be transcribed and expressed. Even in interphase, chromatin may be arranged in two different ways: 2. compacted (where the dna is inaccessible bc its wound around histone proteins) and the relaxed state, so that transcription can occur. Each chromosome in a homologous pair has a different colour. Mitotic chromosomes - condensed and entering into mitosis (post replicated). Interphase - chromosomes have their colour, spread out. 8 histone proteins to make up the core. Grey line = double stranded dna mcl would around nucleosome core (145 bp of dna) Nucleases are cutting only those regions that are accessible (not wound around nucleosomes)
