Document Summary
Autopolyploidy is when genome duplicaion occurs within a species and we see this frequently in plants a lot of the plants that we eat and use are polyploids (coton, tobacco, corn, wheat, rice, etc. ) Autopolyploids are species that undergo genome duplicaion within a species. Allopoliploids result from genome duplicaion that happens in hybrid individuals or is in associaion with hybridizaion. Plants are frequently polyploids and autopolyploidy is fairly common in them for many reasons. So this is a way that you could have speciaion happen within one place if you have genome duplicaion and then reproducive isolaion (you could have a tetraploid and a diploid species be forms in one place) Allopolyploidizaion is similar in the sense that you are geing a polyploid individual from a diploid ancestor but it occurs in a diferent way because it involves hybridizaion between 2 species.
