Idea of normality the last section of his book, rules of sociological method. Durkheim is trying to say that society is external to us. Durkheim, the imperialist, who wants to establish a special space for sociology treat social facts as things. He is against the idea of psychologists or in current philosophy of science, methodological individualists or ethno- methodologists. People who say that individuals make up the world: durkheim is saying that we are born into one particular world, a particular culture that influences us enormously in terms of our sensations and feelings.
