Stereotypes both engender and reinforce affect component (feelings of antipathy and hostility) Discrimination - unequal treatment of individuals or groups on the basis of some social characteristic. Many forms of discrimination: o o o o o o o o o o o. Differential treatment: acts which are intentional, unequal treatment is often based on the racial membership of an individual, race is at a disadvantage (minority group) Unequal treatment not based on race but on some other factor, which ultimately ends up disadvantaging a racial group even though it was unintentional. E. g. stricter sentencing for dealing/usage of crack vs. cocaine. Policy is race neutral, it disproportionally attacks minorities.
