Extended families: multiple generations, kids living with parents as adults. Functionalists: sees tnf as desirable- best at raising kids. Divorce: claim it has many bad effects. Causes mental trauma for children and parents. Mothers working outside of the family hurts kids. Commonly view women as best at raising kids. Overburdening of women: women working outside the home still do most of the housework, childcare. Cohabitation: limits the sanctity of marriage and in so doing limits long- term unions and promotes instability. Studies also find that cohabiting partners are more likely to suffer spousal abuse and separate than married partners.
